Citric acid decolorization column
Citric acid decolorization column is a device used in the citric acid production process, mainly for removing impurities and pigments from citric acid solution, which shall improve the purity and quality of the product.
1. Structure
The citric acid decolorization column mainly consists of a column body, an adsorbent packing layer, a feed port, a discharge port, and related pipelines and valves. The column is usually made of corrosion-resistant materials, such as stainless steel or fiberglass reinforced plastic, which shall ensure long-term stable operation in acidic environments. The adsorbent-filled layer is the core part of the decolorization column. Commonly used adsorbents include activated carbon, macroporous resin, etc. These adsorbents have rich microporous structures and large specific surface areas, which shall effectively adsorb impurities and pigments in the solution.
2. Working Principle
The citric acid solution to be decolorized shall be delivered to the decolorization column section from the feed port and flows through the adsorbent packing layer. During the flow process, impurities and pigments in the solution are adsorbed by the adsorbent, while citric acid molecules, due to their smaller molecular weight and weaker interaction with the adsorbent, which shall smoothly pass through the adsorbent layer, thereby achieving decolorization and purification of the solution. When the adsorbent reaches adsorption saturation, regeneration treatment is required to restore its adsorption performance. The regeneration method depends on the type of adsorbent. For instance, activated carbon shall be regenerated through high-temperature calcination, while macroporous resin shall be regenerated by elution.
3. Characteristics
It shall effectively remove impurities and pigments from citric acid solution, improving the purity and quality of the product.
The adsorbent shall be regenerated and reused, reducing production costs.
The equipment has a simple structure, which is easy to be operated, and is convenient to maintain and manage.
